Maybe the good news isn’t about the individual blessings everyone can receive.
Maybe the good news isn’t about that soulmate, that mortgage, that job, that immigration status, that thing that you feel God owes you.

Maybe the good news is that we are called to more suffering, persecution, trials, and tribulation.
Maybe the good news is what everyone calls bad.
Maybe the good news is not the remove of suffering, but the ability to endure through it.

Maybe the good news is about the victorious declaration of the King of the universe, rather than the myopic victories of His subjects’ artificialities.

Maybe the good news is about the blind seeing that they are truly blind.
Maybe the good news is the realization that the lame really cannot walk by themselves.
Maybe the good news is that the handicapped are disabled by pride, arrogance, and egocentric selfishness.
Maybe the good news is the end of narcissism.

Maybe the good news is the destruction of the temples of spectacles, sport, and seduction.
Maybe the good news is the ability to focus on something deeper than screens, spheres, and six-packs.
Maybe the good news is simple contentment.

Maybe the good news is relying on something else than the power of policy, government, and enforcement.
Maybe the good news is more than social awareness, movements, and public relations.
Maybe the good news is the reliance on Someone else altogether.

Maybe the good news is letting the Whites do whatever to the Blacks;
Or letting the Blacks do whatever to the Whites;
Or letting in every Hispanic and Asian and African and every other geographically constructed outsider;
Or letting them stay out.

Maybe the good news is the ability to be free from labels, categories, and boxes.
Maybe the good news is the ability to embrace fully these labels, categories, and boxes as nations, kindreds, tongues, and peoples to be reached.

Maybe the good news is the removal of fear of the judgment.
Maybe the good news is the embracing of the judgment.

Maybe the good news is the de-emphasis of the preacher who seeks to seduce the masses in 15-45 minute sermons.
Maybe the good news is the emphasis of what Christ can do in a corporate body that encapsulates both the individuality and unity of the persons of the Godhead.

Maybe the good news is the willingness to take on negatives instead of taking on positives.

Maybe the good news means children willingly and lovingly giving away their ice cream.
Maybe the good news means adults willingly and lovingly giving away their ice cream.
Maybe the good news means adults and children willingly and lovingly giving away themselves.

Maybe the good news means teenagers willingly and lovingly giving their hormonally-raging bodies to be a living sacrifice, holy acceptable unto God, which is their reasonable service.

Maybe the good news means to trust salespeople.
Maybe the good news means to trust businessmen.
Maybe the good news means to trust politicians.

Maybe the good news is about freedom from the human condition.

Maybe the good news is that we aren’t handcuffed to microwaveable food.
Maybe the good news is the ability to connect what God has made to be eaten by what God has made.

Maybe the good news is that we are poor.

Maybe there is more than one gospel.
Maybe there are many gospels.
Maybe the wrong one has been preached.
Maybe the right one has been preached and none have accepted it.

Maybe the good news is the preaching of the Bible by the Holy Spirit rather than the playing the guitar with a good tear-jerking story.
Maybe the good news is not the elimination of heresy but the bold, confident, Spirit-streamed preaching of orthodoxy and truth.
Maybe the good news is beyond the human frameworks of doctrinal statements, but the living out of truth in individual lives.

Maybe the good news isn’t the challenging of conventions and the accepted view in the church, but the question of whether the converted heart and mind challenges the conventions and accepted view of the world.

Maybe the good news is that people have the courage to call the gospel my gospel as Paul did.
Maybe the good news is not saying maybe.

For with Christ, the committed individual is invincible, indefatigable, indestructible, and imperishable.
For this reason, the good news came as an individual.
For this reason, the good news changes the individual, one-by-one, to be with Christ, to think like Him, to feel like Him, to talk like Him, to live like Him, to die like Him, and to love like Him.

Maybe this is the good news.
